For the 2019 Oilskin Wax photo shoot, Styx Mill traveled into the Rakaia River upper catchment area, visiting several high country stations and seeing some spectacular scenery in this remote area of the Southern Alps, South Island, New Zealand

Hakatere Conservation Park

The Hakatere Conservation Park is a 60,000ha conservation area centred in the Ashburton Lakes District, Southern Alps, Canterbury, New Zealand.

Found throughout the Hakatere Conservation Park are clear blue rivers, majestic lakes and two mighty braided rivers, the Rakaia and Rangitata. A wild region, Hakatere includes rugged terrain, tussock lands, beech forest, a wide range of native wildlife and some outstanding wetland areas. The Hakatere Conservation Park is easily accessible with a wide range of activities available throughout various seasons.
